Romania: Spanish Mondragon considers investing in major Romanian agri infrastructure project

Diversified Spanish group Mondragon expressed certain interest in the EUR 3.5bn investment project planned by the Romanian ministry of agriculture for building a 200-km between Siret river [north east Romania] and south-eastern region Baragan that would irrigate a large portion of the country’s arable land, Ziarul Financiar daily announced.

Other investors from China, as well as investors from Canada, Germany and England through their consultants, enquired Romanian officials about the project. The project was designed and planned in the first half of the last century, but works started only during the communist regime in 1987. Only a 20km-section of the project was completed. The investors ready to join the government in developing the Public partnership Project will recover their money from the irrigation fees charged to farmers.
