Ukraine waiting for grain yield at 43-50 million tons - agriculture ministry
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy estimates that Ukraine will receive about 50 million tons of grain crops under the optimistic forecast, or within 43 million tons according to the pessimistic, Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk told a briefing during a Cabinet meeting.
"Given the structure of reseedings, our optimistic forecast for today is a gross grain harvest of about 50 million tons, and pessimistic, unfortunately, is expected within 43 million," Prysiazhniuk said.
The minister also said that the harvest volume will depend on the state of seedlings after winter, the conduct of spring field works, as well as cooperation with farmers.
According to recent reports, Ukraine should reseed about 3 million hectares of crops.
At the same time, Prysiazhniuk said that the agriculture ministry will recommend for replanting the expansion of acreage under corn for grain, summer wheat and barley, soybeans and cereals.
The Minister also noted that the predicted amount of grain is taken into account, and there is no threat of a cereal deficit in the domestic market.
Last year, Ukraine had a record grain harvest of 58 million tons.
