US President Joe Biden has said that China, Pakistan, Russia, and Iran are still trying to understand what to do with the Taliban.
On Tuesday, hours after the Taliban announced the details of their interim government, Biden told reporters that China had a “real problem” with the Taliban.
Biden told reporters, “China has a real problem with the Taliban. I’m sure they will be trying to do something about it. Pakistan must be doing the same, Russia too, Iran too.”
In response to a question at the White House, he said, “They will all be trying to understand what to do now. So wait and see what happens. It will be interesting to see what happens next.”
The Taliban on Tuesday announced the formation of an interim government led by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, with hardline leaders of the group being replaced.
Top Taliban leaders have been placed in important positions in the government, in which the name of the dangerous Haqqani network’s head Sirajuddin Haqqani, who has been given the Ministry of Home Affairs, is being discussed a lot.
Haqqani’s name is included in the UN’s list of global extremists and the US investigative agency FBI is also looking for him.
